Think Pink Rocks Artists unite for the second annual charity concert to help fight breast cancer

From Society Scene A marketing publication of the Sun-Sentinel Company
September 23, 2009

Stephanie Robin, a Boca Raton mother battling Stage IV metastatic breast cancer, along with her friends Elizabeth Weprin, Kathy Fleishman and Amy Seidman, are raising funds for breast cancer research charities, while educating women and men about the importance for early genetic testing for breast cancer (the BRCA gene). The committee will accomplish this mission through the second annual Think Pink Rocks ( www.thinkpinkrocks.com) concert at the Count de Hoernle Amphitheater, Centre for the Arts in Mizner Park on Saturday, October 3. The charity concert will feature AKON, Melanie Fiona, Shontelle and American Yard, and is hosted by Terrence & Rocsi of BET's "106 & Park."The concert follows the successful inaugural Think Pink Rocks in 2008, featuring Queen Latifah, Flo Rida, AKON and others, with ticket sale funds donated to several breast cancer research charities. Funds raised this year will benefit Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York; BRCH Women's Center for Breast Cancer; The American Cancer Society / Making Strides Against Breast Cancer; Reach Global / Jacob International; The Florida Breast Cancer Coalition; The H.O.P.E. Project; and University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.Think Pink Rocks is also partnering with Harley Davidson of Palm Beach for the "First Annual Ride to Think Pink Rocks," a police-escorted motorcycle ride from the Harley Davidson Palm Beach store to the concert. The ride will depart Harley Davidson of Palm Beach promptly at 5 p.m. More information and registration forms can be found at www.thinkpinkrocks.com.Robin and the Think Pink Rocks Committee have also launched a national campaign to reach one million men and women by the end of the year with life-saving information about the Breast Cancer Gene (BRCA). According to estimates of lifetime risk, a woman who has inherited a harmful BRCA gene mutation is about five times more likely to develop breast cancer than a woman who does not have such a mutation. People are encouraged to visit www.thinkpinkrocks.com to learn the facts, read about Robin's journey of survival and click to be counted, acknowledging that they now have the information that may save their life or the life of a loved one. "Had I been aware of this gene and my predisposition for breast and ovarian cancer, I would have gotten tested in my 20's and I probably would not be in the same situation I am in today," said Robin. "I want men and women who are at higher risk of having the BRCA gene mutation to know that they have the option of getting tested, empowering them to make informed decisions that can decrease their risk of developing cancer or enhance the likelihood of early detection, greatly increasing survival rates."Concert tickets are $30.
